Bwindi impenetrable national park is found in the southwest of Uganda and getting to Bwindi is long and easy at the same time. There are two ways of accessing Bwindi either by air transport or road transport. For travelers who decide to use road transport to Bwindi get much excitement as they drive passed rolling hills, long horned ankole cattle, ever green vegetation, the Uganda equator and tea plantation. It requires tourists only to have personal documents to identity their national access to the park.
Bwindi impenetrable has got four trekking sectors all ready for trekking as listed, Rushage sector and Nkuringo sector located in the south of the park, then Buhoma sector and Ruhija sector located in the north. The Buhoma sector is the most popular mountain gorilla trekking trailhead in Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Bwindi impenetrable national park has got the largest number of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world and it’s one of the most important tourist destination in Uganda. Uganda wildlife authority has improved the standards of this national park, they provided good security system, better protection of the environment and gorillas that live there.

By air transport
Bwindi impenetrable national park is easily accessed by air transport because air transport is the fastest way to Bwindi and there are quite number of flights heading to Bwindi each day. Entebbe international airport is the main airport in Uganda where all visitors land, from here visitor will be driven to Kajjansi air field by a tour operator where you will find many domestic flights connecting to Bwindi.
Our traveler trekking in Buhoma or Ruhija trailhead in the north of Bwindi impenetrable national park will fly to Kihihi airstrip the closest airport but there is also an option of chartering a flight to Kayonza airstrip.
Then for those trekking Rushage sector or Nkuringo trailhead landing in Kisoro is the best, the flight take generally around 2 hours and then the short drive from airstrip to the park is 2 hours’ drive.
The booking of the domestic flights to Bwindi impenetrable national park is done by a tour operator. You will be required to send your photocopies of personal documents like passport and visa.

By Road transport
Bwindi impenetrable national park is commonly access by road transport and the distance is approximately 490kilometers by road from Kampala and driving hours’ are 8-9 hours. The journey by road to Bwindi is much longer than flying but road transport is more rewarding passing through the fantastic scenery giving you much impression and understanding of the country. Driving to Bwindi in the most common means of transport which tourist use to get Bwindi impenetrable national park.
For visitors trekking Buhoma trailhead and are already in queen Elizabeth national park, it’s easy to access Bwindi because it takes only 2-3 hours’ drive south, driving through Ishasha sector the famous spot for tree climbing lions.
Those in Lake Mburo national park traveling to Bwindi impenetrable national park it takes 5-7 hours’ drive to reach Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Those starting the journey from Entebbe or Kampala the journey takes about 9-10 hours’ drive to access Bwindi impenetrable national park.

Roads to reach Bwindi impenetrable national park
Kampala to Kabale to Kanungu to Buhoma
When traveling to Bwindi, Kampala- Kabale-Kanungu to Buhoma is the longest and the commonly used routes with a beautiful scenery. You will drive through the tarmac highway for about 5-6 hours and then head to the bumpier terrain on a gravel road for about 4-5 hours to Bwindi impenetrable national park.

Kampala to Ntungamo to Rukungiri to Kihihi to Buhoma
The Kampala-Ntungamo-Rukungiri to Kihihi to Buhoma is the one of the easiest and quickest route to use when going to Bwindi impenetrable national park. The route covers around 240miles driving through the tarmac highway from Kampala to Ntungamo and branch off to terrain smaller gravel road to Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Kampala to Kabale to Ruhija
This route will connect from Kampala-Kabale to Ruhija trailhead driving for 8 hours connecting to the gravel road passing the local communities to north-eastern Ruhija trailhead of Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Kampala to Kabale to Nkuringo
The Kampala-Kabale to Nkuringo trailhead route is the best route to use to access Bwindi impenetrable national park. Drive through a tarmac road from Kampala to Kabale and then connect to a bumpy mountain road through local communities to Nkuringo in Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Bwindi impenetrable national park can be accessed by air and road transport. For clients with difficulties’ in seating for long distance, we advise you to use air transport because its takes only 2 hours by flight to Bwindi compared to road transport which takes 9-10 hours drive to reach Bwindi impenetrable national park.
