10 Days Rwenzori Mountain Hike Safari

10 DAYS RWENZORI MOUNTAINS.

Situated in Western Uganda in the district of Kasese, lies Mountain Rwenzori national park where the 10 days safari sees you to. Also called the mountain of the Moon, Rwenzori stands as the 3rd highest mountain in Africa with its peak at Margeritah which is 5109 meters. The long safari features in hiking and mountaineering, beautiful sceneries of the glaciers, lush vegetation zones among others all worth your money and time. The trip will begin and end in Kampala as organized by Chosen Expeditions and Tours.

HIGHLIGHTS.

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kasese.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyakalengija (1648m) to start the hike

Day 3: Hike to John Mate hut (3505m) from Nyabitaba.

Day 4: Hike to Bujuku hut (3900m) from John Mate.

Day 5: Climb up to Elena Hut (4541m).

Day 6: Hiking up to Margherita at 5109m and descend to Kitandara (4023m).

Day 7: Descend to Guy Yeoman Hut (3505m).

Day 8: Decsend to Nyabitaba at 2651m.

Day 9:  Descend to the park headquarters at Nyakalengija.

Day 10: Set off back to Kampala city.

DETAILED ITINERARY.

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kasese.

Depending on your location in Kampala, you will meet up with our experienced driver guide who will go through the itinerary with you. After the briefing, embark on a 5-6 hours journey to Kasese via Fort portal. Along the way, you will have a stopover at the Equator for refreshments and photography and proceed to Kasese. Check-in at the booked lodge for dinner and slumber as you await the mystical challenge the following day.

Accommodation options: Hotel Margherita / Ruboni Community Camp.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyakalengija (1648m) to start the hike

Following your morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters at Nyakalengija to meet fellow hikers, guides and porters. After the briefing, commence the magical hike through River Mubuku and thick vegetation. Expect to glimpse the blue monkeys and hear the chimps with different vocalizations as you approach Nyabitaba. Have dinner and rest at Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 3: Hike to John Mate hut (3505m) from Nyabitaba.

After grabbing an early morning bite, check out with packed lunch and commence the hike through Kurt Shaffer Bridge to take a glimpse on the radiant of River Mubuku’s confluence. Have lunch and proceed to Nyamuleju hut to enjoy magnificent views of the two massifs of Mount Stanley and Speke. Then proceed through the forest’s moor, open patches and arrive at John Mate where you will dine and rest for the night.

Day 4: Hike to Bujuku hut (3900m) from John Mate.

Having had a morning bite, set off early enough through heath trees and climb up to Bigo Bog where you will have picturesque views of lobelias ground. Proceed the hike via Lake Bujuku between the mountain ranges up to the rocky cooking pot and finally arrive at Bujuku hut where you relax, have dinner and retire for a night.

 

Day 5: Climb up to Elena Hut (4541m).

Following a morning breakfast, embark on a hike to climb Mount Victoria and Speke through scenic views of the Alpine vegetation. Later, ascend through beautiful views of the glacier from Elena, proceed to Scott Eliot through mountain snow and arrive at Elena Hut. Set your base at the hut as you await to rejoice over the mystical Mountain Rwenzori.

Day 6: Hiking up to Margherita at 5109m and descend to Kitandara (4023m).

Wake up early enough and ascend to the Icy peak of Alexander which stands at 5092 m and then proceed to the Margherita, the mountain’s acclaimed peak at 5109m high. Descend to Lake Kitandara where you have dinner and a night’s stay at the hut.

Day 7: Descend to Guy Yeoman Hut (3505m).

After having a tasty heavy breakfast, embark on a long descent from Lake Kitandara to the fresh field passage where you will be able to goggle into Congo. Following a picnic lunch, proceed with the descent to Guy Yeoman hut where you will have your base. Have dinner and retire for a night.

Day 8: Descend to Nyabitaba at 2651m.

On the last day of the hike, you will steeply descend on the initial River Mubuku and later join its adjacent route. Arrive at Nyabitaba hut for relaxation, dinner and a night’s rest.

Day 9:  Descend to the park headquarters at Nyakalengija.

After having a morning bite, descend to the park headquarters at Nyalalengija which will take you 2-3 hours. On arrival, meet up with the driver guide for a transfer to Kasese and check in at the booked lodge optioned on day 1 for dinner and an overnight stay as you reflect on the mystical hike to the mountain’s peak.

Day 10: Set off back to Kampala city.

After grabbing breakfast, pack up and say farewell to the Mountain Rwenzori as you transfer back to Kampala city with never fading memories of the mystical 10 days safari marking the end of the safari. You can then proceed to Entebbe International airport to catch up with your flight back home.
