3 Days Gorilla Trekking in Congo

Overview

This 3 days gorilla trekking safari, takes you to the home of the endangered mountain gorillas in Virunga national park.  Virunga national park is located in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the park covers an area of 7768 km2 and it was established in 1925. Virunga national park is the oldest national park in Africa and it’s one of the most world’s biodiversity treasures.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Virunga national park in Congo

Our company guide will pick you from the hotel or Kigali international airport very early in the morning. Set off with the journey to DR Congo, arrive at the Goma border, where you will be cleared by immigration officers. Proceed with the journey to the park with lunch stopover. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Time- 3-6 hours’ drive

Meals- lunch and dinner

Day 2: Gorilla trekking

Have early morning breakfast, pack your trekking equipment’s, drinking water and packed lunch. The driver will drive you to the park’s headquarters where you will be briefed on rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After briefing your allocated game ranger will lead the group into the jungle in search of endangered mountain gorillas. Finding gorillas takes half an hour to 6 hours depending on the movement and where the gorillas built their nest the previous night. After finding the gorillas, you will be given one hour to interact with this giants. Trek back to the park’s headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate. Drive to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight. 

Day 3: Departure

You may have an optional boat cruise in Lake Kivu, then drive back to Kigali city or to Kigali international airport.
