3 Days Ssese Island Tour

Overview

Ssese Island is known as Bugala Island and its lies in the northwestern corner of Lake Victoria and it is found in Kalangala district. You might wonder where the name Ssese came rom but in the earlier days there was an outbreak of Tsetse flies which invaded the areas but due to illiteracy, the locals didn’t know how to read and pronounce the word so they ended up writing it as Ssese instead of Tsetse hence making it gain its current name Ssese island. Ssese Island is located in southwest of Entebbe and the island is approximately 51 kilometers across the water. This 3 days Ssese island safari brings out the best of an island trip ever. This is one the best travel packages for local tourists in Uganda. Being that Ssese island is sounded by water, the main activity in the area is fishing although tourism is also getting to have dominance and it is catching up very fast due to the tourist attractions which exist in Ssese or example the different bird species which enable birding to take place.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Ssese Island

You will be picked by our company representative at 10:00 am and he will drop you off at Nakiwogo. Remember to pack all what you need for island trip like raincoat, camera, warm sweater and insect repellent. You will have lunch on en-route to Nakiwogo.  Arrive at Nakiwogo in Entebbe before time for depart of the ferry. The ride on water will take 3 hours and you will reach Kalangala and you will be driven to the booked accommodation. Enjoy some moments from the accommodation as you view sunset as it kisses the waters of Lake Victoria. Relax as you wait for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: visit Ssese Island, Lake Victoria

Wake up to the beautiful sounds of birds praising the Lord for another day, have breakfast and set off with fishermen for fishing activity. Enjoy African local way of fishing, have some time with local people and then return to the lodge for lunch.

Later in the day, head for nature walk, bird watching and sighting. Ssese Island is blessed with variety of bird species like Kingfishers and small Egrets among others.

You will do canoeing and hike from Lutoboka central forest Reserve at the hilltop. Enjoy the moment and you will head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Departure

You will have to wake up early so as to get in time of ferry. Leave the lodge at 7:00 am and head to ferry crossing point where you will be checked and aboard the ferry at 7:30 am exactly. You will arrive to Entebbe at 11:00 am and your safari guide will drop you to the hotel or Entebbe international airport for your flight back home. Thanks for traveling with us.
