Apoka Safari Lodge in Kidepo valley National Park
Nestled in the borderlands of northeastern Uganda, within Kidepo National Park, Apoka is renowned for offering its visitors an authentic and opulent experience, making it the furthest thing from so-called civilization.
Apoka Lodge has ten rooms, a swimming pool, and a main building made of a combination of wood, thatch, and canvas. It is perched on a kopje. The main house is a huge, raised, open-plan structure with an interior separated into a lounge, dining room, and bar, making the most of the kopje’s lower slopes for support and shade. The overall style is primarily European, and the furniture is low and cozy.
Services and Food
Beside the lounge, which is usually decked out for a formal meal with silver service in the evenings, is a long and exquisite dining table. The food and service are excellent.
The well-designed Rooms
Apoka Lodge has wonderfully designed rooms that are high, circular, and arranged. Each is constructed in the same manner as the main lodge, with exposed framing, thatch roofs, and dark wood floors. Well-placed windows break up the cream canvas walls. The tropical shower, dressing table, and double sinks in the en suite bathrooms are a delight.
The rugs, random pieces of furniture, and the enormous, incredibly comfy beds are all handcrafted locally. Every accommodation includes a huge outdoor tub and a veranda that face out over the jungle. The rooms are exquisitely tastefully designed, with every detail tastefully contained. Please be aware that the office has Wi-Fi; however, it is only available when the generator is operating.
The Activities
Bird viewing, day and night drives, cultural excursions, and guided walks—a specialty in Kidepo—are among the activities offered at Apoka Lodge.
Influence Trade
The settlement of Lokorul, which is located outside of the Kidepo Valley National Park, and Apoka have a close relationship. In addition to hiring nearly solely from the community and providing professional training, the resort has made significant efforts to expand the area’s tourism industry.
The community
Thanks to the lodge’s connection with Lokorul, the hamlet was able to establish a clinic, and a contract was made for a physician to visit the area on a regular basis. The lodge’s next goal is to assist with the construction of a school.
