The Wild Waters Lodge, Lake Victoria, in Kalangala, Uganda

A multi-award winner, Wild Waters is an opulent lodge located on a river island in the heart of the Victoria Nile in central Uganda.

With nine “deluxe” suites and one family suite, Wild Waters is nestled within dense riverine forest and offers views of the river’s rapids. The suites are connected to the main area through wooden walkways that cut through the forest.

This space includes a restaurant and bar area, as well as a pool constructed from local limestone that overlooks the raging river from a prime location. Thatched roofs, sanded hardwood decks, and wooden-clad walls are features shared by the main lodge and the suites.

The Activities

A large portion of Wild Waters’ activities center around the water and include river cruises, paddle boarding, fishing, and several degrees of white water rafting and kayaking, which may be tailored for a family outing. Horseback riding, quad biking, and spa services provided inside the lodge are other options.

Services and food

All of the items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are acquired locally and vary from healthy to excellent. A typical breakfast consists of prepared food along with a variety of cereals, fresh juices, fruit, and nuts. Dinner is often a five-course a la carte event, while lunch is typically a single-course buffet.

All meals are served in the main dining area, in the seclusion of one’s suite, or outside by the pool. If sufficient information is given in advance, most dietary restrictions can be accommodated. Please be aware that only the shared areas have access to Wi-Fi.

The Rooms

Every one of the ten suites, which are perched above the river, has a view of the quieter sections or the rapids. Every room has a thatched roof resting atop a cob-style structure, matching the main lodge’s architectural design. By default, the rooms have a day bed and are configured as doubles. The rooms open onto a private terrace, which includes a freestanding bathtub and a bathroom equipped with a rain shower and a flushing toilet.
