The trail of the Congo Nile
Despite its name, the Congo Nile Trail is not located in the Congo nor along the Nile. However, it’s situated in western Rwanda along the shores of Lake Kivu. It’s regarded as one of those difficult trails to tackle as well. There are numerous villages, stores, eateries, and other amenities along the way. The trail is easy because there aren’t many climbs and only a few slopes, plus there is road traffic.
It is feasible and advised to start in Gisenyi and cycle south to Kamembe, the trail’s eventual finish line, provided one can manage to spend five days cycling the entire length of the route. If one does not have enough time, one can start in Gisenyi and finish Kibuve in two days. It also seems to be the most picturesque section of the path.
The three-hour boat trip, which departs twice a week from Kibuve to Gisenyi, is present. This allows you to return the trail-riding bike that you hired. Our organization is capable of organizing all bike excursions.
You can never run out of supplies while hiking because there are plenty of nearby stores and eateries. But, in the event that you wish to avoid any disruptions while hiking, it is also advised that you bring your own supplies. You can simply stroll to the stores and ask for what you need there.
On the path, lodging is also not a problem because the Rwanda Development Board has set up several campgrounds. There is no need to make a reservation in advance, and the campsites are clearly marked. It would take almost three hours to cycle from one guest house to the next. The four- to six-hour cycle from Kinunu to Kibuye is the most difficult section of the trail.
Along the trail are numerous guest homes that are kept up and run properly. Because it includes actual exploration of Rwanda, including travels into Rwanda, this is the track that is followed during Rwanda safaris and tours.
