Over a thousand visitors and staff members boarded the Seven Seas Voyager when it moored at the Mombasa port. With 688 passengers and 451 crew members, the Regent Seven Seas Cruises ship docked in Zanzibar early on Saturday morning.

The unrest and massacres that shook Kenya and some districts of Mombasa, mostly by the insurgent organization Al-Shabab, forced the cruise liner and others to cease their operations in Mombasa. With 1,099 passengers and crew members, the opulent cruise liner docked in Mombasa on December 9 of last year.

It is anticipated that there will be two cruise ships this month and in February.Compared to 2014, when there were only 900 cruise visitors visiting Kenya, there were over 3,000 last year.

Najib Balala, the cabinet secretary for tourism, and Fatuma Hirsi, the principal secretary for tourism, were at the port to greet the visitors.

According to the CS, the cruise ship’s arrival one day after the New Year’s vacation began marked a significant improvement for Kenya’s and all of East Africa’s tourism industries.

Mr. Balala expressed hope that the country’s current calm will help the sector grow this year. He stated that more travelers are anticipated to visit Kenya as a result of the US, UK, and French governments’ decision to remove travel recommendations. But he bemoaned the fact that he thought the business would fully bounce back by 2018.

In order to draw in more foreign visitors, he added, the Kenya Tourism Board has been given Sh2 billion for marketing in both established and developing markets.

According to Mr. Balala, Kenya will take part in the Miami Convention in March in the US state of Florida in an effort to draw additional cruise ships to Mombasa.

Travelers from the US, UK, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, France, Ireland, Spain, Brazil, and New Zealand are among those that arrived in Mombasa on Saturday.

Others arrived from Portugal, Mexico, Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Belgium, Norway, and Denmark.

Some visitors went on game drives at the Mwalughanje Elephant Sanctuary and the Shimba Hills Game Reserve after arriving.

Some had a tour of Mombasa town, while others went to the Bombolulu Workshop Cultural Centre at Haller Park.

A portion of the travelers that enter through Kenya make brief trips to Rwanda and Uganda to see the gorillas.
