The oldest gorilla in Bwindi National Park, Ndahura Gorilla Silverback, passes away at the age of 28.
At the age of just 28, he was a dominating silverback belonging to the Butukula family, which is found in the Ruhija section of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. He was the leader of a group of twelve gorillas, and Rukumu, another silverback, may succeed him as Butukula’s future caregiver.
Ndahura is reported to have been sitting on a flimsy breakfast on a tree that snapped around eight in the morning on Sunday, the day of his tremendous fall. This was at the Ruhija Post, one kilometer distant, at Hamusenene.
It is reported that a postmortem was performed to determine Ndahura’s exact cause of death. Ndahura’s remains, though, will be conserved and housed at the museum.
Uganda’s southwest has the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Situated near the Virunga National Park and on the edge of the Albertine Rift, this park, which is a component of the Impenetrable Forest, is bordered by the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is only reachable on foot and is made up of 331 square kilometers of lowland and highland forest.
