Semliki Safari Lodge in Semliki National Park

Semliki Safari Lodge is a luxurious lodge that is known for giving visitors an authentic Ugandan bush experience. It is situated in western Uganda on the Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve and is a part of the elite Classic Safari Camps of Africa group.

Summary

The lodge, which is made of stone, wood, and thatch, has eight sleeping tents and a mess area. The common spaces, which are nestled inside an exquisitely designed garden, comprise a dining room, lounge, bar, veranda, library, and swimming pool.

Services and Food

The main lodge is large, inviting, and cozy. Its features include polished wooden flooring, curved low seats, white and beige cushions, open sides, carefully selected antiquities, hand-carved tables, and an open fire. Both the meal and the service are excellent.

The Rooms

Semliki Safari Lodge’s sleeping tents are as cozy as the common rooms, raised on wooden platforms and shielded by highly thatched roofs.

Every tent has a small seating area with easy chairs and a tiny side table, a double or twin bed, a private bathroom, and a veranda. The tents are cozy and distinctly safari, with simple yet elegant décor that includes polished floors, muslin drapes, Persian carpets, and practical furniture. They are also exquisitely illuminated. There is Wi-Fi available in the lobby.

The Activities

Semliki Safari Lodge offers guided walks, boating, fishing, tracking forest elephants and Ugandan kobs, general bird watching, and shoebill sighting excursions.

Effects on Conservation

The Semliki Wildlife Reserve area was entirely destroyed by hunting and poaching in 1996. In the Semliki basin, there were thought to be 300–400 Uganda kob remaining. However, the area has truly come back to life thanks to the efforts of Semliki Lodge and UWA (Ugandan Wildlife Authority), who worked hard and dedicatedly to stop poaching and evict cattle that were grazing there. Currently, there are roughly 10,000 kob.

Numerous animal species, including lions, warthogs, buffalo, and elephants, have returned in large numbers to the region.

The land must be preserved, and this requires collaborating with the local population and highlighting the advantages of conservation. Locals are employed by Semliki Lodge, and it also provides guiding training to others. Currently, Semliki stands as one of the best locations to view the critically endangered Shoebill and Forest Elephant in the world.
