Rwanda,, the thousand hills country
Rwanda has it all, from the bustling metropolis of Kigali to the serene Lake Kivu, from broad savanna plains to lush rainforests abounding with chimpanzees and mountain gorillas. After a turbulent past, the “Land of a Thousand Hills” has been beautifully restored and is open for exploration.
Rwanda was given the nickname “Le pays des Mille Collines,” or “Land of a Thousand Hills,” because of its breathtaking landscape. There are picturesque Rwandan villages suitable for Africa safaris and tours, tropical rainforests, and rolling hills filled with exquisite tea plantations.
This is the best of Africa! In addition to thrilling volcanic adventures, the northern Volcanoes National Park provides opportunities to see endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Enjoy the abundant native fishing life and breathtaking sunsets on the vast Lake Kivu.
Take a stroll through the vivid green tea gardens or track chimpanzees in the tropical Nyungwe Forest. You might see the big five on the vehicle safari in the eastern region of Akagera National Park! In addition to its abundance of wildlife and natural features, there will be time to reflect on Rwanda’s sad past.
Discover Rwanda
Volcanoes National Park
Golden monkeys and mountain gorillas can be found in Volcanoes National Park, the oldest national park in Africa. Covering 160 km2 of lush rainforest, the park is home to five of the eight volcanoes that make up the Virunga Mountains.
Akagera National Park
Rwanda’s largest national park is called Akagera National Park. It’s perfect for both traditional game drives and walking exploration of the area, which enables up-close interactions with wildlife. Ten lakes, more than 500 species of birds, and more than 8,000 large animals can be seen on safari in the National Park.
Via the Congo-Nile path to Lake Kivu.
Lake Kivu is one of Africa’s Great Lakes and a portion of the Albertine Rift Valley. Mountains, a unique flora, and wildlife encircle it. Traveling the renowned “Congo Nile Trail,” which spans 227 kilometers, is one of the best ways to see the lake. You can use a combination of foot, mountain bike, and lake kayak to explore the track. This is an amazing adventure for those who love the outdoors, with a glimpse of rural Rwandan life along the way.
Where to stay: Look for the greatest lodging options in breathtaking settings.
We are able to carefully select the best accommodation options for each visit. Although Rwanda is known for its upscale and privileged tourist base, it also accepts travelers on a budget. No matter the lodge grade you choose, our top priority is to give you a comfortable stay through excellent service.
When it is possible, we like to collaborate with small lodges in prime locations that offer intimate settings in order to provide the greatest experience in Africa.
Ideal time of year to travel.
Any time of year is a great time to travel to Rwanda. It is thought that the hot season runs from June to September, and the low season lasts from October to May. Regarding climate, it is believed that Rwanda experiences drier weather during the high season and more rain during the low season.
The seasons are no longer very reliable, as we have found out in recent years, as it is possible for there to be dry spells during the “rainy season” for rains to occur during the “dry season.” Monkey treks through Rwanda’s rainforests are frequently the high point of a trip there. Rainfall is inevitable in rainforests due to their inherently moist environment.
LODGING AVAILABILITY AND PERMITS
It is important to remember that during the busiest season, gorilla tracking licenses sell out quickly. Particularly when on a trip in July or August. Obtaining your permissions at least six months in advance is something we advise. The renowned luxury lodges in Rwanda are subject to full bookings, often months in advance.
