Situated in the northern region of Uganda, Kidepo National Park spans a surface area of around 1442 square kilometers, with a height of between 900 and 1200 meters above sea level. Additionally, this national park was established as a wildlife reserve in 1772 under the leadership of Ian Ross, the park’s primary warden. After Uganda attained independence in 1962, it was reorganized as a national park, offering safaris, tours, and holiday packages.

The phrase AKIDEP, which translates to “to pick up” in English, is where Kidepo Valley National Park earned its name. In addition, this national park boasts an abundance of different kinds of vegetation and wildlife, as well as stunning surroundings.

Kidepo Valley National Park has many stunning natural features that draw visitors, like the Lomej Hills, Mount Morungole, which is an elevated area about 2,750 meters above sea level and offers hiking opportunities to interact with the Ik people, who are known to be Uganda’s smallest ethnic group, and the Narus Valley, which means Mud in Karamojong language and is known to have the Narus River as its main source of water.
