Following the suggestion made last week to leverage the memory of the former dictator to promote travel to Uganda, the country is preparing to launch the Idi Amin Tourism Trail.

The often overlooked legacy of former Ugandan President Idi Amin will also be transformed into a lucrative tourism trail that parallels other historical tragedies that have been turned into popular tourist destinations, such as the Rwandan Genocide and the Holocaust Museum in Germany, according to a proposal unveiled last week by Stephen Asiimwe, the chief executive of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).

“The most well-known Ugandan ever, Idi Amin, is being underutilized. Asiimwe stated, “We have to develop this trail,” on Wednesday at the ITB Berlin post-briefing.

One of the top tourist destinations in Uganda is the silverback gorilla. The tourist forums in Buganda, Busoga, Bunyoro, Kigezi, northern Uganda, and eastern Uganda are some of the main cluster groups.Other initiatives to develop Uganda’s tourism industry include school outreach programs, the Imbalu carnival, and the Kampala carnival.

“We hope that everyone takes part in the Uganda Martyrs Trail in June. Uganda has been divided into clusters; Asiimwe stated that a sustainable home domain is essential for development.

The plans are part of an endeavor to help the travel and tourism sector start again after years of operating below its potential.

After years of underfunding, chief executive Asiimwe declared that the ministry of finance has committed to giving $2 million (about sh5 billion) in the upcoming fiscal year.

In an effort to change the existing situation in which the majority of Ugandans travel to Kenya, part of the effort will be focused on promoting Uganda to her neighbors in order to attract more visitors from the East African Community to Uganda. The goal is to increase foreigners’ interest in safaris in Uganda, particularly those from neighboring Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. The goal of the UTB chairman is to see to it that Uganda has a National Tourism Fair by the time the present board’s three-year term ends.

This is what we hope to leave behind. He stated, “There isn’t a place to give information on what Uganda can offer.

Acting Tourism Director Grace Mbabazi Aulo urged travel companies and tour operators to capitalize on the positive feedback and numerous awards regarding Uganda’s exceptional blessings that continue to come in.

According to UTB’s head of marketing, Edwin Muzahura, Uganda had one of the biggest numbers of overseas visitors to its stall ever.

The main draws for tourists to Uganda are gorilla safaris in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, white water rafting, the Nile River source, and wildlife viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park, among a few other attractions.

The Idi Amin Tourism Trail should help Uganda’s tourism industry grow, as it is in dire need of it.

During the three days of the event, about 700 people came by the stall and about 100 trades were made.
