Gorilla families in Rwanda

The newwest habituated Hirwa Gorilla family 

At Volcanoes National Park, this was one of the newest habituated gorilla families. It means “Lucky One” in the family name. It was created by the division of the Agashya and Sabyinyo families. This gorilla family is one of the ones that has been known to have twins. It has one Silverback and nine members.

The family of Sabyiny Gorillao

The famed Mt. Sabiyo, one of the volcanoes that make up the Volcanoes National Park, inspired the name of this gorilla family. Because the family lives near the mountain’s slopes, they got their name. There is only one silverback among the nine family members.

Muhoza family of gorillas

The lucky Hirwa gorilla family split off to form the Muhonza Family, which is headed by Muhoza Silverback. There is only one silverback among its eleven members.

Family of Titus Gorillas

One of Rwanda’s most well-known gorilla families is this one. This family is among the oldest to have been accustomed to Dian Fossey’s rule. It is unique for research purposes and has seven members, but it can be tracked if the gorilla families are all fully reserved.

Amahoro family of gorillas

This is the volcano gorilla family that is the most amiable and tranquil. The family’s character is the source of its name. The word for peace in the indigenous Rwandan language is amahoro. There is only one silverback gorilla among its 17 members.

Igisha Household

Due to the sliverback that broke off from Susa A, this is generally referred to as Susa B. With 23 members and 5 silverbacks, the Susa B leaves higher on the Karisinbi than the Susa A. Gorilla family Umubano

Eleven family members make up this family, which split off from the Amahoro family under the leadership of Charles, the lone silverback.

The Bwengye Gorilla family

The Ugenda Gorilla family 

In Volcano, this family of gorillas is among the most nomadic. It wanders frequently in search of food and rarely stays in one spot for very long. Because of their reputation as foodies, the family is known as Ugenda. There are two Silverbacks and eleven family members total.

The Umubano Gorilla Clade

With 11 individuals, including the silverback Charles, at the head, this gorilla family split off from Amahoro. However, Charles and Ubumwe have remained friends up until this point, and they never fight.

Family of Isimbi Gorillas

2012 saw the split of the Karisimbi Gorilla family into the Isimbi Gorilla family. One gorilla family named Getty led it; however, they passed away in 2013. The black-back gorilla is currently the family’s leader.

The Pablo Gorilla Family

One gorilla family that has been set aside for study is this one. It is made up of three family members. It is a single group that scientists and other researchers primarily access for study purposes.

The Agasha Gorilla family

The group’s humorous Silverback inspired the name, which translates to “News” in the native Kinyaranda language. On the slopes of Mount Sabyinyo and Mount Gahinga, the family of twenty-five, along with one silverback, is departing.

Family of Kwitonda Gorillas

The group was named for the dominant male silverback, Kwitonda, who passed away in 2003 at the age of 40. Around the beginning of 2003, the gang left the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There are four silverbacks among the family’s eight members.

The oldest and biggest Susa Gorilla family 

The Gorilla family at Volcanoes National Park is the biggest and oldest. During her research with gorillas, Dian Fossey habituated this group of animals initially. 1976 saw the birth of the family’s eldest gorilla. The Gorilla Family is among the most difficult to travel because of Mount Karisimbi. It is a family of 28 gorillas, including two silverbacks.

The Karisimbi Gorilla family 

This gorilla family is also the newest member of the group; it was originally known as Susa B in 2009 and changed its name to Karisimbi Gorilla family a year later. There is one silverback named Nyagakangaga among the 16 members of the group. This family settles on Mt. Karisimbi’s slopes, 4507 meters above sea level.
