This 6-Day Uganda Gorilla-Chimpanzee & Wildlife Safari takes you to some of Uganda’s finest national parks in the West and Southwest for primate and wildlife experiences. The safari will take you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and the home of primates, Kibale National Park, for gorilla trekking, wildlife experiences, and chimpanzee trekking, respectively. The 6-Day Uganda Gorilla-Chimpanzee & Wildlife Safari will begin and end in Entebbe/Kampala city as crafted by Chosen Expeditions and Tours.

Detailed Itinerary.

 

Day 1: Pick Up and Transfer to Kibale National Park

Your 6-Day Uganda Gorilla-Chimpanzee & Wildlife Safari with Chosen Expeditions begins with a morning pick-up from Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Kampala. After a short briefing, you will travel west toward Kibale National Park, famously known as the primate capital of the world.

The drive takes you through scenic countryside, tea plantations, and traditional villages. As you approach Fort Portal, the landscape changes to rolling hills and crater lakes with the Rwenzori Mountains visible on clear days. Upon arrival at your lodge near Kibale Forest, you will check in and relax as you prepare for the next day’s chimpanzee trekking experience.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a briefing before entering the forest for chimpanzee trekking. Kibale National Park hosts one of the highest densities of primates in Africa, including red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and black-and-white colobus.

Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend one hour observing their behavior as they feed, groom, and move swiftly through the trees. The experience is energetic and immersive, offering close encounters in a natural rainforest setting.

After lunch, depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive offers beautiful views of crater lakes and savannah plains. Arrive in the evening and check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Launch Cruise on the Kazinga Channel

Begin the day with an early morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Wildlife sightings may include elephants, buffalo, Uganda kobs, warthogs, hyenas, and lions. Your guide will interpret animal behavior and the park’s diverse ecosystems.

In the afternoon, enjoy a launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. The boat safari offers close-up views of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, and a wide variety of bird species along the shoreline. This cruise is one of the highlights of the safari.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the Ishasha Sector

After breakfast, travel south through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. You may stop for a short game drive in search of these unique predators resting in fig trees.

Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon and relax while surrounded by the dense forest landscape.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Visit in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. You will be assigned a habituated gorilla family and guided into the rainforest by experienced trackers.

The trek can take several hours depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, you will spend one hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watching the silverback protect his family and young gorillas playing nearby is a rare and unforgettable wildlife encounter.

In the afternoon, enjoy a Batwa cultural visit. The Batwa people are the original forest inhabitants of Bwindi. During this experience, you will learn about their traditional hunting techniques, medicinal plants, music, and dances, gaining insight into their history and culture.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Departure to Kampala/Entebbe

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. Enjoy lunch en route and scenic views along the way.
