This 5 days safari will give you an opportunity to explore Volcanoes National park, the most visited primate destination in Rwanda. You will be able to encounter in their natural habitat and later unique golden monkeys from which you will visit Dian Fossey’s tomb. You will also visit the Twin lakes and later engage in cultural tour where you will encounter with the locals.

Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up, transfer to Volcanoes National park.
Upon your arrival at Kigali International airport, our experienced driver guide will welcome you and give you a hint about the safari and later transfer to Kigali for a city tour. You will visit Kigali Genocide Center and art centers. Proceed for lunch in a good restaurant to taste Rwanda’s cuisines and later set off the engine to Volcanoes National park with scenic views of rolling hills and local homesteads. On arrival, check at the reserved lodge for dinner and slumber.

Travel time: 2-3 hours.
Day2: Gorilla trekking day.
On this beautiful day, wake up early enough for a morning grab and transfer to the park headquarters with packed lunch from the lodge. Meet the guides and other trekkers for briefing and registration and later you will be given a gorilla family to trek and proceed to the forest for this highlight. The search will take you about 3-7 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas with rewarding views of other primates and birds. You will be given 1 hour to stay with the gorillas once you sight them and take pictures. Before nightfall, transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and cultural tour.
Following your breakfast, transfer to the park’s headquarters for a simple briefing about golden monkey trekking and be allocated a habituated family to trek. Proceed to the forest and embark on the search for the unique creatures by use of their left overs like shoots of bamboo. This will take you about 3 hours to locate them and once you do so, you will be with them for 1 hour as you watch them play, feed, and jump among others. Transfer back to the lodge for lunch and prepare for a cultural tour to the nearby Iby’iwachu village and interact with the locals. You will learn about their culture and way of life, visit their homes, farms as you watch their dances and listen to songs and folk stories. After the cultural tour, transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day4: Dian Fossey hike and twin lakes visit.
After breakfast, transfer to the headquarters of the park for a short briefing Dian Fossey hike. With the lead of a guide, embark on a hike to Karisoke to see the graveyard of Dian Fossey near her favorite gorilla called Digit. The hike will reward you with views of primates, birds and other animals like antelopes. Following the hike, transfer to the lodge for lunch and later embark on a drive to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo with spectacular views of hills, birds among others. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day5: Departure back to Kigali.
Have morning breakfast and check out of the lodge to meet the driver for a transfer back to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight back home. End of this amazing safari.
