Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking & Departure
Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast. Pick your trekking equipment, enough drinking water, and a packed lunch, and set off with your safari guide/driver to the park’s headquarters for a short briefing by the park warden before taking the gorilla trek. You drive to the trekking starting point at 8:30 am. With the assistance of a well-armed game ranger, your groups will follow a designated trail into the jungle in search of gorilla families. Where these critically endangered mountain gorillas slept the night before or how they moved while looking for food will determine where you can find them. It can take between thirty and six hours to complete the trek. You will then spend only one hour with these endangered mountain gorillas, see them feeding, breastfeeding, the silverback guarding the family, and playing, and you will interact with them. After the trek, report back to the park’s headquarters, where you will be rewarded with a trekking certificate. Thereafter, drive back to the lodge, have refreshments, and then check out of the lodge and transfer back to Kigali International Airport, where you will catch up with your flight back home.
