Overview

This 2-day chimpanzee trekking Kibale Forest National Park experience will take you to the famous Kibale Forest National Park, a home to more than 1500 chimpanzees with whom we share DNA of 98.7%. Kibale Forest National Park offers a 100% chance of viewing chimpanzees; you will trek the trails of the forest following the chimpanzees’ footsteps till you find them.

This is accompanied by a visit to Bigodi Wetlands, which is situated on the edge of the park. For those who love bird watching, then Bigodi Wetlands is a sweet, able place for you to visit. It has got plenty of bird species and other primates like monkeys and baboons, and you will see different plant species. The tour will also include a visit to the nearby community to learn more about their traditional beliefs and culture.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale forest national park and afternoon visit to Bigodi wetlands

Our company guide/driver will pick you up from the agreed point at 7 am and start with the journey to Kibale Forest National Park. The journey takes about 5 hours’ drive, passing through the beautiful scenery, homesteads, tea plantations, and evergreen vegetation. You will have a lunch break in Fort Portal town and then proceed to the park.

Upon arrival, you will check in at the lodge and then relax a bit. Later, head out for a walk in the Bigodi wetlands, which are found at the edge of Kibale Forest National Park. Bigodi Wetlands harbors an array of wildlife, like baboons and monkeys, among others; it also harbors plenty of bird species and plant species. After the swamp walk, proceed to the community visit and enjoy the local dances, among others.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and departure

Wake up early and prepare for the trek. Take morning breakfast and report to the park’s headquarters by 7am, where you will meet park rangers and other tourists. You will be briefed on the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing, you will start off with the adventure in Kibale Forest, hiking along the trails as you hear the screams of the chimpanzees from afar, and you will be able to locate them easily.

Upon finding them, you will be allowed only one hour with the chimps as you see them swinging from one branch to another, breastfeeding, and slapping the tree barks that sound like thunder. Enjoy the moments with the chimp, and then after, return to the lodge, have lunch.

Check out of the lodge and head back to Kampala to Entebbe International Airport.
